Have you heard of PDF farming?
It is a business model which is gaining popularity right now.
PDF farming is where you create a large portfolio of cheap short eBooks.
It’s pretty much similar to the style of business that made Emanuel Haldeman-Julius a very wealthy man in the 1920s.
EHJ published a series of little ‘pocket’ books known as ‘Little Blue Books’ and had around 2,000 titles in circulation during his publishing career.
It’s reported that he sold well over 100 million books.
PDFs are the modern digital equivalent of ‘pocket’ books.
Selling PDFs is not necessarily new; people have been selling PDFs for many years, myself included.
The big difference is that many people are now creating and selling short PDFs which solve one specific problem.
These digital books are short (often less than 30 pages) and straight to the point.
And they are priced between $5 and $99.
I’d say the majority of PDF farmers sell their PDFs somewhere between $5 and $30.
Where EHJ advertised his little books in full page paid-for adverts in newspapers, PDF farmers use free-to-use social media to drive people back to their pages where they can purchase their PDFs.
And this is what Monica Herbert did to make $1,000 within four weeks.
She created a series of short PDFs and then told her newsletter readers about them.
Monica also has around 2,600 newsletter subscribers with over 50 paying her to access additional content… but that’s a story for another day!
The 5 Step PDF Profit Plan
Profiting from short PDFs is a very simple process.
Here’s what you do…
- Find a problem – Look online for people asking for solutions to specific problems.
- Write up a solution to that problem – Write up your solution in a Google Doc or MS Word doc. You can use AI to outline a workable solution.
- Save it as a PDF – It doesn’t need to look too professional. It just needs to be simple and easy to read.
- Decide on a price and put it online – You can upload it to your own website or one of the many platforms that allow you to sell digital products.
- Tell people about your PDF – Use social media and email to let your followers know about your latest PDF.
Why is selling short PDFs a great way to make money?
- There are millions of people looking online for solutions to problems they are desperate to solve.
- People pay for solutions.
- Writing short solutions is easy, and even more so with AI.
- Short PDFs are appealing because they are quick to read and are straight to the point.
- Selling short low priced PDFs is simple because you do not need long sales copy and the price is affordable and is not going to break the bank.
It is a great business model, but a lot of the PDF farmers are missing out on a lot of extra profit.
By offering other related products at the time of the sale (an ‘offer bump’ for example) and as part of a follow-up email campaign, you can bank more profit from the sale of those PDFs.
There are six-figure-a-year incomes to be enjoyed with these PDF farm businesses.
The PDF is the gateway that brings people into your business.
They can build you email lists of buyers… and that is where the real money is found!
Statistically, when a person has bought one product from you there is a 27% chance that they will buy a second.
When a person has bought three products from you the likelihood of them buying again is between 60% and 70%!
It is far easier to sell to an existing customer than it is to find new customers, so why wouldn’t you want to offer more products to those who have already purchased a PDF from you?
It’s a lot of additional easy profits waiting to be collected.
