Here’s a truth very few marketers will tell you about email and online marketing.

The fastest and best way to build a strong relationship with the people on your email list and to prevent them from forgetting about you is to give them a lot of additional value they were NOT initially expecting.

Many email and internet marketers will tell you that making money online is all about Know, Like, and Trust.

If a person Knows you, Likes you, and Trusts you, they will spend money with you.

It is correct, but it goes further than that.

There is something vital that many people ignore.

It’s certainly not something other marketers talk about, and that is… the Goodwill Bank.

It’s Vital To Make Regularly Payments To The Goodwill Bank

By sending your email subscribers free additional resources such as videos, magazines, or newsletters it deposits ‘goodwill’ into the Goodwill Bank.

I’m a big believer that whenever you send an email that asks subscribers to click a link and go to a specific webpage, you are making a small withdrawal from the Goodwill Bank.

By constantly asking them to do something, you are slowly eroding the goodwill there is between you.

You are depleting the bank of goodwill.

I’m sure you know what happens when one person in a relationship always takes and never gives.

Eventually, the other person in the relationship walks away.

The email equivalent of walking away is when a subscriber clicks the ‘unsubscribe’ button to stop receiving your emails.

You cannot simply keep asking your subscribers to do this or to go there without giving anything in return.

You have to give something back.

Show Your Appreciation And Say Thank You!

You have to show your appreciation for them sticking around and doing what you ask of them.

You’d treat your partner if they have supported you when you have been busy with work.

You’d take them out for a meal, take them to a show, or take them away for the weekend as a way to say thank you and to prevent the relationship breaking down.

You must do the same with email subscribers and customers.

Reward Loyalty!

Large stores do it with loyalty cards where they offer loyal customers discounts on numerous products.

Coffee shops do something similar where loyal customers earn a free drink after they have purchased a specific number of drinks.

Give your email subscribers additional resources to say ‘thank you’ for them sticking with you.

Think back to when someone unexpectedly gave you something to say thank you for something you did or were doing, how did you feel?

You would be happy and grateful, and more importantly… it would make you want to carry on doing things for that person.

People Make Decisions Based On How They Are Treated!

Think of it this way…

I knew of a builder who would prioritise customers on how they treated him during a job.

If he was working on a job and they were good to him, gave him a tip, spoke kind words to him throughout the work, and generally treated him well, he would go to them as soon as they rang even if any work they wanted doing paid less than others.

Whereas those people who unnecessarily moaned about things that were generally pointless or out of his hands, were rude to him, or late payers (or even refused to pay over silly pointless things), he would ignore their calls even if the work they wanted doing would pay more than most.

He chose who he worked for based on the way his customers treated him. He chose to work with those people who made regular payments into the Goodwill Bank!

He remembered the good and forgot about the bad!

Goodwill Deposits Is Good Business

When you send out additional resources such as a free monthly 32+ page full-colour newsletter to your email subscribers… they will remember that!

Not only will they remember it, they will look forward to receiving it.

Once you have sent out two or three editions, they will eagerly wait for the next and open up the emails as soon as they land.
